Life at Wayland
At Wayland, you can launch rockets during class time, enjoy dinner with your friends, land the leading role in the school play, and learn how to shoot the perfect layup or hone your technique for a perfect volleyball serve—all while being supported by teachers, mentors, coaches, and classmates.
With musical groups, theater, varsity sports, class trips, weekend activities, and more than 15 student clubs and organizations to choose from, there are so many ways for you to get involved and stay active while learning.
Every day is different at Wayland Academy. A constant on campus is an abundance of both planned and informal activities that connect our community. Between academic classes, athletic practices, study halls, and rehearsals on school days, there is often free time from 5:45 to 8:00 p.m. Students can eat a leisurely dinner and hang out with friends to unwind.
The academic day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. on a regular day, or at 12:50 p.m. on a shortened day. There are eight class periods, called blocks. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays, four of the eight blocks meet, and on Wednesday, all eight classes meet. Each class meets three times per week—two times a week for one hour and 15 minutes and one time a week for 45 minutes. For example, if it is an A-Week schedule and you are scheduled for Algebra during block 1, the class meets at 8:30 a.m. on Day 1. On Day 2, your Algebra class does not meet. On Day 3, Algebra meets at 8:15 a.m. until 9 a.m. On Day 4, Algebra meets again from 12:50 until 2:05 p.m. and then it does not meet on Friday.
A 45-minute period at 9:50 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays is reserved for breaks and club meetings, The whole school comes together for Assembly on Mondays and then again for Chapel on Fridays.
