Dining on campus is provided by Sodexo Food Services and led by a campus legend—Chef Richard H `20. Students enjoy tasty meals and the staff is very responsive to suggestions for additions to the menu. Staff can accommodate students special dietary needs (including gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and lactose-free options).
Chef and his team also create wonderful formal meals for special occasions, like dances and Senior Brunch. These meals are especially memorable. Alumni often remark how much they enjoy coming back to campus for Homecoming and Spring Gala to visit Chef and enjoy the fabulous cuisine created by the Sodexo team.
In 2017, Wayland became the first Blue Zones
-approved boarding school in the world. The Wayland cafeteria was recognized for its commitment to from-scratch cooking. The cafeteria removed salt shakers from tables, served 100-calorie dessert portions, and repositioned healthier options—including Blue Zones inspired entrees—to the front of the service line. Wayland also incorporated nutrition education into daily lesson plans outside of health class.
