For more than 51 years, ASSIST, a U.S.-based nonprofit, has placed more than 5,000 student scholar-leaders from more than 50 countries to independent schools. As their second longest partner, Wayland Academy has hosted more than 100 ASSIST students. We are proud to continue our partnership with ASSIST as they expand into new countries and create life-changing opportunities for incredible international scholars.
Wayland has hosted students from Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, Australia, and so many more countries. This year’s ASSIST students, Magdalena, Benjamin, and Levin have joined the junior class from Croatia and Germany. They have been outstanding additions to the Academy—in the classroom, our sports programs, and dorm life. We are learning from them and many lifelong friendships have been formed.
Magdalena “Maggie” is from Croatia! She is part of the varsity volleyball team, taking three AP courses, and always participating in on-campus activities.
Benjamin “Benni” is from Germany! He is taking two AP science courses, participating in soccer, and is often debating sports with other residents from Wayland Hall over meals.
Levin is from Germany! He takes great interest in American football, as well as soccer. When deciding between sports, he chose to play soccer to compare how Americans play versus Germans.
