Girls Soccer Starts Strong

The cold wet weather made for a sluggish start to the Wayland Girls soccer game on Thursday.  Both teams had trouble with a wet soccer ball but Wautoma struck first with a goal from Amber Babcock.  We returned with a crushing goal from Eva Putnam `21 off an assist from Maya Wallman `21.  However, Wautoma struck back and--at the half--Wayland was behind 2-1.

Early in the second half, Wautoma scored again deepening the divide to 1-3.  We didn't quit. In fact the girls only got stronger and smarter.  Excellent effort came from Jackie Gorman `19 as she launched a through shot up field to Eva.  Eva then carved a path with expert precision and landed her second goal.  Score: 3-2.

The battle was on.  The Big Red controlled the ball for the majority of the second half and no one was giving up.  With only 11 minutes to go, Maya Wallman crossed a perfect pass right on to the foot of Keyla Gallegos `22 who scored with a one touch shot.

Emma Gibson had 13 saves and we had 15 shots on goal.  Great defensive efforts came from Claudia Lopponow` 21, Sandra Elgizooli `21 and Gabbay Madu `19Milly Barudin `21 and Sophia Lama `22 worked hard to control the midfield. Final score: 3-3.
