College Counseling

Applying to college doesn't have to be stressful. We've got your back the whole way through.

From the heartland to the world, Wayland students go on to succeed in diverse environments, on a wide range of campuses, and across countless careers. At Wayland, we believe the college application process should be a time of reflection, discovery, and excitement—not stress or dread.

Wayland’s college counselor works with every individual student, offering expert guidance and personalized support to help each student identify and pursue their unique talents, aspirations, and goals.

College Counseling doesn’t start senior year—it begins the moment students arrive. Our counselor tracks each student’s academic and extracurricular journey from the start, building a deep understanding of their strengths and interests. By the time applications are underway, the counselor knows each student well and can offer thoughtful, individualized advice every step of the way.

How Wayland Supports Students

All students have access to our college counselor, Mr. Carl Michaletz, at any point throughout their time at Wayland. Whether a student wants to schedule a meeting or simply drop by, the door is always open!

The college counselor:

  • Provides customized college lists
  • Supports ACT and SAT preparation
  • Coordinates campus visits and meetings with college representatives
  • Advocates directly for Wayland students with college admissions teams
  • Provides each student with a unique letter of recommendation

Through group seminars and one-on-one meetings, students learn how to navigate the application process, from writing personal and supplemental essays to organizing activity lists and understanding financial aid.

Wayland regularly hosts college representatives from across the United States. A sampling of colleges that have visited campus in recent years can be found here.
