Wayland Academy Welcomes Students and New Faculty for the 2025-26 School Year

Wayland Academy has officially kicked off the 2025-26 academic year, welcoming 200 students from 38 countries to Beaver Dam. Classes began on Wednesday, August 20, following a week of orientation activities that included mentor group outings, team-building exercises, and welcome events designed to prepare students for the year ahead.

“Our diverse and talented student body is what makes Wayland truly exceptional,” said Head of School Jason Warnick. “We are excited to begin another year of academic challenge and personal growth as we bring together students from across the globe to live, learn, and lead.”

Several new faculty and staff members are also joining the Wayland community this fall.

Riley Hooper, originally from Houston, TX, joins the Residence Life team after teaching English in Spain and working in youth programs. He is eager to support Wayland’s boarding students in and out of the classroom.

Irene Pawlisch of Fall River, WI, is the Academy’s new head chef. A Certified Executive Chef with the American Culinary Federation, Pawlisch has guided students to success in state and national competitions and is passionate about sourcing fresh, local foods.

Dominick LaPorte, a Wisconsin native and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, has been named Assistant Director of Admission. LaPorte comes to Wayland from Madison Country Day School. He brings experience in public service, firefighting, and education, and will also coach Big Red soccer.

Lana Oksana Robotewskyj of Sun Prairie, WI, is Wayland’s new piano instructor. With advanced degrees in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, she has taught at several colleges and operates her own piano academy.

Derrick Skivington-Green joins Wayland as Director of Auxiliary Programs and Admission Coordinator. With a background in education, entrepreneurship, and youth development, he looks forward to expanding programming and helping students explore their passions.

Rounding out the new hires is Spencer Skivington, a Resident Life Associate who is completing his education degree while student teaching in Beaver Dam. He discovered his passion for working with English Language Learners during an internship and is excited to also coach athletics at Wayland.
