A seasoned rowing veteran, Coach Seth Ahlborn (also Wayland’s Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Innovation) developed the Academy's rowing program, which was added as an offering to student-athletes at Wayland Academy in spring 2022. Coach Ahlborn began his rowing career at Kent School in Connecticut and competed in the U.S. Nationals, U.S. Nationals Team Camp, and U.S. Nationals Team Trials. He continued his rowing career as the head coach of numerous collegiate and junior programs in the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Northeast and has been a U.S. Rowing Referee for more than 38 years. Through his leadership, Wayland's rowing program continues to grow. It can already boast two graduates who have gone on to row at the collegiate level, one at the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill and the other at Purdue.
Coach Ahlborn and assistant coach Jason Loppnow hope to build a community rowing program in Beaver Dam, with great potential to bring more regattas and spectators to Beaver Dam Lake. To learn more, please contact Seth Ahlborn (sahlborn@wayland.org).
