Ava Loppnow `24 shows off her bronze medal  for Women's Junior Single at the Des Moines Regatta, with her father, Coach Jason Loppnow P`24

Experienced rowers from Wayland Academy traveled to Des Moines, IA for the Head of the Des Moines Regatta on Saturday, September 23, coming away with the gold medal in the Men’s Junior 4 with Coxswain and a bronze medal in the Women’s Junior Single.

Ava Loppnow `24 earned a bronze medal in the Women's Junior Single race. She beat three men’s novice times and all five novice women. Ava performed better than women from Wichita, Kansas City, Minneapolis, and two from Long Lake.

Pablo Moreira `24 beat the only other high school sculler by 3:18 (the rest are part of clubs); he beat two men’s open times and was faster than all five novice men by 36 seconds.

Pablo Moreira `24, Niki Zils `25, Stewart Growdon `25, Luis Lechon Cabello `24, and Kat Fogarty `24 (coxswain) took home gold medals and improved their time by 30 seconds from last week. They were 4:30 faster than second place.

We were faster than St. Cloud State, Nebraska, and St. Thomas's Open Men’s 4s and faster than St. Thomas's Open 8s!

The Wayland Rowing Team was also selected as the 1430 ESPN Team of the Week. Read more: dailydodge.com/1430-espn-highschool-team-of-the-week-wayland-rowing
