Ring-the-Bell Student-Athletes of the Week—January 29
This week we have an extra special Ring the Bell Student-Athletes of the Week announcement for everyone, including a school record breaker! Join us in congratulating these Big Red student-athletes who are ringing the bell—personally, athletically, and academically. 🔔 🔔 🔔
- Boys Basketball—Sam Porras `25: The lid finally came off the basket for Sam, who combined to score 95 points in three games last week. Sam has remained positive and persistent through many challenges this season.
- Girls Basketball—Lucia "Lu" McGuinness `24: Over the past week, Lu has started to find a new level in her game. She's one of the team's defensive leaders as she's averaging 4.7 steals per game and 2.2 blocks per game to go along with 11.5 rebounds per game. On offense, she scored 13 against Central Wisconsin Christian and followed this up with 27 against Lourdes, one of the best teams in the state.
- Cheerleading—Rachana Sawyers `24: Rachana always brings positivity to the team and leads by example. She encouraged the team through a tough week of games. She is a tremendous leader and talented cheerleader!
- Fencing—Anik Biswas `24: Anik has been correcting mistakes in his technique and starting to plan ahead during his bouts.
- Forensics—Maddie Clark `25: Maddie is always a positive and super helpful member of the Forensics team. She has two events herself, but she is also willing to give up some of her practice time to help the new members of the team work on their pieces. She holds the coveted “Banana Shirt,” but she willingly shares it so that we can have our good luck charm present at our meets. Maddie has definitely got the Ring the Bell stuff!
- Powerlifting—Aidin Richardson `25 and Griyan Hughland `26: Aidin and Griyan are both new to powerlifting this year and they are prime examples of people who come in, listen to coaching, and give 100% effort to accomplish their daily workouts to the best of their ability. This hard work is paying dividends as both are tremendously improving each day and getting stronger and more explosive. Way to Go! #RingTheBell.
- Boys Swimming—Deniz Ergun `24: Deniz has put his all into every practice and it paid off with a 22.295 second time in the 50 free to break the previous record of 23.40 seconds—a record that has been held for the past 60 years. Way to go, Deniz! 🏊🏼♂️
Way to go, Big Red student-athletes! Keep ringing the bell! 🎉
