Ring-the-Bell Student-Athletes of the Week—January 22

Girls Basketball Ring the Bell Student-Athlete of the Week—Ariel Battey `26

The victory bell is ringing again for these Ring the Bell Student-Athletes of the Week! Join us in celebrating these Big Red student-athletes who are ringing the bell—personally, athletically, and academically. 🎉 🎉 🎉

  • Boys Basketball—Coltyn Kroschel `27: Freshman Coltyn Kroschel is playing with consistent effort in games, and he has grown into a leader at practice with the JV2 basketball team.
  • Girls Basketball—Ariel Battey `26: Ariel led the team in three-pointers by connecting on a grand total of six three-pointers in key Trailways East Conference wins versus Hustisford and Dodgeland and a tough, closely contested non-conference loss versus Fall River. Along the way, she reduced her average turnover margin by nearly 50%, averaged nearly five rebounds per game, two assists per game, and one blocked shot per game. Ariel has been coachable, listens to feedback, and puts in the time outside of practice to become a better basketball player with gradual improvement each day.
  • Cheerleading—Mary Whittier `27: Mary is not only a dedicated member of the cheerleading team, but she also plays the flute in Wayland's Pep Band. It was inspiring to watch her hustle in our first two games this week. She successfully participated in both cheer and pep band for both games without missing a beat (literally) and has shown great enthusiasm and energy in practices this week as well!
  • Fencing—Hanna Paszczuk `25: Hanna continues to develop great posture and is using strategy in bouts.
  • Forensics—Haley Bislew `25: Haley is always super excited about forensics, and she works hard on her character/s at each and every practice. She is a very positive force on our team! (She also took the time out of her already crazy schedule to bake me a birthday cake!)
  • Powerlifting—Easton Keil `26 and Carmen Vilches Martinez `24: Easton and Carmen are being recognized this week for their continued hard work, dedication, and positivity throughout the powerlifting season. These two athletes not only take care of their own business but also willingly help newer athletes as they learn to powerlift.
  • Boys Swimming—Hyunjae "Jay" Cho `26: Jay is the swimming Ring the Bell student-athlete of the week because of his perseverance and willingness to swim any event, however last minute to help the team.
  • Boys Wrestling—Odin Nico `25: Odin is being recognized this week because of his leadership on and off the mat. He continues to excel on the mat while also playing a huge leadership role in our program for all of the newer wrestlers. Way to Ring the Bell!

Way to go, Big Red student-athletes! Keep ringing the bell! 🔔
