Ring-the-Bell Student-Athletes of the Month for August 2024
Join us in celebrating the first Ring the Bell Student-Athletes of the Month, who are ringing the bell personally, athletically, and academically. 🔔 Congratulations Big Red student-athletes! 🎉
- Cross Country—Griyan Hughland `26: Griyan has been training hard all summer for this XC season. Since we began practice, she has been head and shoulders above her teammates in terms of her performance. However, she has not carried any ego, and is instead acting as a true leader by positively encouraging her teammates during races and workouts.
Griyan has set high goals for herself this season, but she is also determined to be a good captain and leader. It is a pleasure to work with Griyan in Cross Country. - Football—Constantin Kalteis `27: Our Ring the Bell Student-Athlete of the Month for football is Constantin Kalteis `27! He did a phenomenal job during preseason camp and the first week of practice! He is a leader by example and always comes to practice with a smile on his face, eager to learn and get better! Mindset is a choice, and Constantin chooses to look at the good and positive in the world. He is a prime example of someone who follows the team slogan this year to "Never Waste Opportunity."
- Rowing—Fabian Calvo `26: Fabian participated in the preseason for rowing and was instrumental in our fundraiser at the Dodge County Fair. As a prefect, he had several conflicts but provided exemplary service to the team throughout the week. As a returning junior rower, he continues to lead by example at practices and around campus. Way to Go!
- Soccer—Harry Yeo `26: Junior Harry Yeo has made a strong start to the season. During matches, Harry never gives up on plays and keeps his feet moving at all times. He maintains his composure in adverse situations and demonstrates good sportsmanship. In practice, Harry always gives his best effort in each drill and pushes himself to improve during conditioning. Harry saw his hard work pay off, connecting on his first goal of the season in the team’s opening match, a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Lake Mills.
- Swimming—Grace Wells `27: Grace has done a great job of being a leader by example for the swim team! She works hard in and out of the pool to always give her best effort! Way to #RingTheBell in all you do, Grace!
- Varsity Tennis—Derya Baytan `28: Derya comes to practice with a great attitude and takes pride in her game. In our meet against Whitewater, her opponent quickly sized her up and began lobbing drop shots in an attempt to throw her off her game. But Derya stayed calm, assessed the situation, adjusted, and went on to win, 6-3, 6-2.
- JV Tennis—Saule Kupcinskaite `26: Despite being ineligible to compete at the varsity level, Saule always arrives at practice with a smile and an enthusiastic attitude. She helps other players, going so far as to hold a serving clinic in one of our early practices. She also handily beat her opponent 6-1 in our first meet of the season against Whitewater.
- JV Volleyball—Camino Paredes Olmedo `27: Carmino has been a leader on and off the court. She has been encouraging other teammates, taking the initiative to teach others during drills, and is a rock star in the classroom. She leads by example and practices hard every time on the court. Her peers voted her to be one of the Captains this season, and you can tell she is a natural-born leader. She is that cheerleader when something goes right and that encourager when there is a growth opportunity. Keep up the great work being a great example. #RingingtheBell
- Varsity Volleyball—Maddie Clark `25: Maddie has shown exemplary leadership on and off the court. She put in skills training over the summer months and has encouraged her fellow teammates to go above and beyond while on the court and off. She is a great mentor to her younger teammates as they look to her drive, communication, and empathy to build their own determination. Maddie can also be seen as an outgoing and inclusive individual on campus, in the dorms, and in the classroom. She engages, encourages, and is a cheerleader to ensure she is ringing the bell on and off the court. Keep up your determination and leadership by continuing to #RingtheBell.
Keep ringing the bell! 🔔 🎉
