Parents' Council


Wayland Academy Parents` Council

Purpose
The purpose of the Parents` Council is to provide support to the Trustees, and Wayland’s President, administration, faculty, and students in the following specific ways:

  1. By providing an organization which will involve Wayland parents in the day- to-day activities of Wayland;
  2. By providing opportunities for communication through an open exchange of ideas and suggestions among Wayland’s Trustees, President, administration, faculty, parents, and students;
  3. By supporting fundraising programs designed to assist Wayland and its programs;
  4. By assisting Wayland in recruiting qualified students;
  5. By assisting with the planning, programs, administration, and implementation of various Wayland parent events, both on and off campus, including, without limitation, Parents’ Weekends and other events intended especially for parents; and
  6. By furthering the cause of Wayland in other positive and imaginative ways.

Membership
Membership on the Council is limited to parents of students attending Wayland. One member of the Board of Trustees and Wayland’s President serve as ex-officio members of the Council. Members are elected/or appointed to the Council by the Nominating Committee together with the Wayland President, administration, and faculty. Council members are selected from both boarding and day students and serve for a term of two years. They may be re-elected to the Council as long as the member is a parent of a student at Wayland.

Council Officers and Standing Committees
The officers of the Council consist of the Chair, a Vice Chair, a Secretary, and the immediate Past Chair. Married members are co-officers of any office held by either spouse. Currently, the Standing Committees of the Council consist of the Nominating Committee, Parents` Communication Committee, Parent to Parent Committee, Gala and Auction Committee, and the Parents` Fund Committee. The Council has representatives on the Board of Trustee-Campus Life Committee.

Talk to Me Badges
Parents` Council members wear Talk to Me badges during events. The Council promotes communication and an open exchange of ideas among all Wayland parents. Below is the 2009-2010 Parents` Council membership list.
