At Wayland, male and female students compete in more than 20 sports. The key word is participation, regardless of the skill level or experience. Students participate in athletics to try a new sport, improve their existing skills, or compete for a championship at the varsity level.
Depending on the sport, our athletes can vie for statewide interscholastic honors either through conference affiliations or as independents. Our "no-cut" policy ensures that everyone interested in athletics gets his or her chance to participate to experience the fun of various sports and to learn the value of teamwork.
Although we encourage athletic participation, we understand that not all students are interested year-round in organized team sports. Thus, students may participate in the Alternative Activities Program (AAP), which may include weightlifting or games of a non-competitive nature.
