
Wayland Academy’s Class of 2011 graduated May 22, 2011, marking the transition of seniors from a private high school into the world beyond.
An honorary graduate joined the 49 seniors when Trustee Chair Susan Peterson `63, conferred the honor on Eileen Rauschert `11, whose children, grandchildren and husband have graduated from Wayland. She was recognized for her generosity and support of Wayland. She will share her honorary year with granddaughter Anne, who was given her diploma by her grandfather Trustee Emeritus Karl Rauschert `47.
Also receiving a special honor was Interim President and Academic Dean Joseph Lennertz H`86. Lennertz received the Academy’s most prestigious award, the Distinguished Service Citation.
Class president John Pryme charmed his classmates by comparing them to sea turtles scrambling into the ocean of life. Salutatorian Moonhyuk Kim thanked family, friends, faculty and classmates and emphasized that graduation was an accomplishment achieved by all who supported them. Valedictorian David Mosley thanked everyone as well, and ended by stating “It’s about this time that I’m probably supposed to tell some funny story about my time here. However, I cannot do this. My time here cannot be defined by one singular event. It is the sum of one million and one small events. Events that on their own seem insignificant, but added together make up my four terrific years here.”
