Tips for Sophomores
- Sophomores should continue to participate in the sports, activities and clubs that they most enjoy. When evaluating extracurricular activities, college admission officers typically look for consistency and commitment.
- Sophomores should strive to challenge themselves academically by making good choices in coursework.
- All sophomores should plan to take the PACT and the PSAT. These tests are good practice for the ACT and SAT, which are taken junior year.
- Often, it is wise to take an SAT II test at the end of sophomore year. These tests are subject-based and should be taken immediately upon completion of the courses on which they are based. Sophomores are encouraged to discuss these tests with their mentors and subject-matter with their teachers before taking them.
- Sophomores should continue to hone the study habits learned as freshmen.
- Read widely: books, newspapers and magazines. To do so is good preparation for the SAT and ACT, which demand a strong vocabulary.
