Discovery Hall is home to the Science Department. All of Wayland’s biology, chemistry, and physics classes are conducted in this building. The facility contains fantastic classroom and lab space, an observatory (with a powerful 12-inch reflecting telescope), and the Science Lecture Hall. A unique and engaging curriculum provides students with the standard Bunsen burner-style lab opportunities along with such recent activities as watching the physics teacher, Mr. Disch, lie down on a bed of nails (then allowing students to stand on his chest), learning botany by working with a small garden alongside Discovery Hall, and participating in lab demonstrations featuring lasers, small explosions, and hot air balloons of students’ own devising.
